TBI in Low Severity Crashes 2 hours with Stephen Wagner DC
    DATE: Friday, 10 January 2025
    TIME: 12 noon - 2 pm EDT (GMT-5)
COST: Free for NAPARS members;  $5 for non-members
ACTAR: This event has been approved for 2 CEUS by ACTAR. Accredited attendees will need to sign in with the i-Attend during the presentation.

All attendees will be able to request an attendance certificate during the show.

    SUMMARY:

We will have Stephen Wagner from Portland Oregon to discuss the potential for injury during low-severity crashes and a possible fix for the problem for some patients.

    OUTLINE:

    • Head accelerometer data from human crash testing in 3-5mph delta-V crashes
    • Probability of these causing brain injury
    • 5-8 cases of real world minimal visible damage crashes
    • Several of them have EDR data (or lack of)
    • All of these cases were diagnosed as having concussions with persistent symptoms (post-concussion syndrome) or mild traumatic brain injuries
    • Biomechanics of the spine and factors that are often overlooked.
    • Why it is unlikely that they suffered an actual brain injury
    • What may be a better explanation of the cause of their symptom.

NOTE: This presentation will be recorded, and placed in the Reference Library.

Digital Integration and Building Charts in Excel from a CSV File, 2 hours with W.Bartlett
    DATE: Friday, 07 February 2025
    TIME: 12 noon - 2 pm EDT (GMT-4)
COST: Free for NAPARS members;  $5 for non-members
ACTAR: This event has been approved by ACTAR for 2 CEUs consideration. Accredited attendees should be prepared to sign in with i-Attend app during the presentation.

All attendees will be able to request an attendance certificate during the show.

    SUMMARY:

I will be working with a CSV file recorded during an acceleration/braking event using the G-Field Recorder phone-app. We will digitally integrate the accelerometer data to get speed. If time permits, I'll compare these results with a VBox Sport running at the same time during the test. Topics will include:

-File structure & saving your work - don't lose original file!

-digital integration of acceleration - multiply time step duration by ft/s/s to get ft/s speed change in each step, then sum them all all to get total speed change.

-Setting up columns for simple chart generation, or selecting non-contiguous columns

-Adjust bias out of signal acceleration data, shifting timebase to line GPS and calculated speed values

-Borders, gridlines, axis labels, titles, fonts, colors

-Dual axis charts - managing color & scales

    -Legend, if you must

-Sharing your chart - printing or inserting into a report

One possible result from the file we'll be using looks like this:

We are pleased to announce Heavy Vehicle EDR training of 2025 hosted by NAPARS:

Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorder (HVEDR) Use in Traffic Crash Investigation Analyst Training, by Forensic Training Group (https://forensictraininggroup.com/)

This 2.5-day starts with a refresher of definitions, supported vehicles and recent updates to OEMs. Progression into damaged vehicles, supplying power to a partial system, off-vehicle imaging considerations and predictive mentality are discussed. The bread and butter of the course talks about digital data from Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems from Wabco OnLane/OnGuard, Bendix Wingman Fusion, and Detroit Assurance. Other data sources such as dash cameras, electronic logs and fleet tracking systems are also included. The final pieces of this training opportunity included digital data from trailers and transmissions and how they may be of relevance to semi-truck collision investigations. This class offers a half day of practical testing with collision mitigation system(s).
